Teaching Kids to Cook-Start Easy

Cooking with kids can be very messy. It can also be super frustrating, so my tip is: keep it simple in order to keep it organized. My kids, love chicken wings. They love eating them like cave people and needing wet wipes after they are done. I'm comfortable with that. But, what I am not comfortable with is too much chaos in my kitchen. It just makes my skin crawl and my nerves explode with anxiety. So let's keep it simple....

Using either a store bought marinade or a homemade one, let the kids marinate the wings and have it sit overnight in the fridge. Then let them place it on a baking tray and cook for a specific amount of time till it's done. In this case, chicken wings take up to 45 minutes in an 400 degree F oven (200 C). You want them crispy. Just be careful not to burn them. Keep an eye on them. Set a timer with your kid to check every 10 minutes for fun.....

A good tip: I often use a combo of a store bought bbq or hoisin sauce and add extra spices/sauces to make it seem more homemade... bbq sauce with cumin, coriander, garlic powder & onion powder, DONE! Or Hoisin sauce with sesame oil, sesame seeds and rice wine vinegar, BAM! The options are endless....

If I, (a professional chef) can cook with kids, so can you!
